Though I really like the concept, I'm not sure I care for how this retirement card idea turned out. What do you think?
Sailing Home is today's featured stamp set. I decided to stamp the sailboat a little off center on the card front using Memento Ink. Then I made a mask using a Post-It note.
Cutting or tearing into some copy paper can be done to create a negative mask for the card front. Does that sound like too much work? Well, then, here's my secret: I just cut the opening in the copy paper using the large die from the Magnolia Memory Dies. Washi tape was used to help hold it in place.
I brayered on some Pacific Point Ink to create the water using a Sponge Brayer after masking off the sky. I reversed the mask and then applied some Balmy Blue Ink to the sky. A few birds stamped in the upper left in black looks great.
A scrap of Whisper White card stock was used to stamp the sailboat again. After coloring in with some Stampin' Blends I cut it out. I wasn't thinking about the die I could have used from the Smooth Sailing Dies š so I just cut it out with my Paper Snips. I glued it in place over the sailboat on the card front. The dies also provided my wheel in the upper right corner, cut from Night of Navy card stock.
HINT:
When cutting out your mask be sure to cut up to the sails and boat, at least along the right edge. I neglected to do that and ended up having to water color in the sky between the sails and lines on the top layer. I think it came out okay, don't you?
Pacific Point Ink was used to stamped the sentiment. I then grabbed a couple of the Layering Squares Dies to create the greeting element.
Would you like another retirement card idea? I think you'll really like this Adventure Bound Card.
