Sometimes it's fun to let the pretty paper do most of the work! This floral birthday card combines three lovely patterns, a little sparkle, and some delicate flowers for a birthday greeting that's both cheerful and elegant.
I love how the Gorgeous Grape and Old Olive colors play together. And those tiny pink flowers? They're the perfect finishing touch!
A Floral Birthday Card with a Little Shimmer
I started with a Basic White card base and added a 4″ x 5-1/4″ layer of Shimmering Stripes Specialty Designer Paper. Unfortunately, the photograph doesn't do this paper justice! It has a beautiful, subtle sparkle that catches the light when you move the card. It adds just enough shimmer without competing with the other elements.
Next, I selected three coordinating patterns from the Violet Dreams Designer Paper. I cut each strip to 3/4″ x 4-3/4″ and arranged them vertically across the card front.
I especially like the contrast between the darker floral print, the soft green pattern, and the pretty purple paper. Each one brings something different to the design, yet they work beautifully together.
And using strips like this is a wonderful way to use up some of those smaller pieces of designer paper we all seem to accumulate!
A Few Flowers Make All the Difference
Once the paper strips were in place it was time to dress things up a little.
Using the Framed Violets Bundle I die-cut a couple of flowers from Gorgeous Grape cardstock and several leaves from Old Olive. I love the detail in these dies! Even without a lot of extra work the flowers have such a pretty, dimensional appearance.
For the greeting I stamped “Happy Birthday to You” in black ink on Basic White cardstock. Then I cut it out using the smallest die from the Sweet Words & Labels Dies.
I positioned the greeting across the three patterned strips and tucked the flowers and leaves around it. A few Stampin' Dimensionals helped lift the elements off the card front and give the arrangement some depth.
Of course, I couldn't resist adding a few of those exquisite Adhesive-Backed Blooms! Their soft pink color and delicate appearance complement the larger purple flowers beautifully. They're such a small detail, but I think they add so much charm.
An Easy Design to Make Your Own
One of my favorite things about this floral birthday card is how easily you could change its appearance. Try three different paper patterns, switch up the flower colors, or use a different greeting. You could even turn it into a thank you card or a thinking of you card.
And while I used the Framed Violets Bundle, you could certainly substitute flowers and leaves from dies you already have.
I think this design would be especially pretty made in several different color combinations. It's a lovely way to show off coordinating papers without needing a complicated layout.
I hope this card inspires you to pull out some of your favorite patterned papers and give this design a try. Sometimes a few simple strips, pretty flowers, and a little sparkle are all you need to make someone's birthday a bit more special!
