This winter slimline card was the perfect way to show off one of my favorite scenes from the Alpine Winter Designer Series Paper. Covering up much of that beautiful snowy mountain view was not an option!
A Winter Slimline Card That Lets the Paper Shine
I knew I wanted to feature a large section of this paper, so instead of making my usual card size I went with a slimline design.
I started with an 8″ x 9″ piece of Basic White cardstock. Then I scored the 8″ side at 4″ and folded it in half, giving me a finished card measuring 4″ x 9″.
Then came the fun part — choosing exactly which section of that gorgeous winter scene I wanted to feature. I cut it to 3-7/8″ x 8-7/8″ and glued it to the center of the card front. That leaves a very narrow border and lets the scenery take center stage.
For the embellishment I reached for the Hitting the Slopes Stamp Set. It seemed made for this paper!
I stamped the skis and poles, colored them with alcohol markers and then fussy cut them out. Since I wanted to keep the card fairly flat, I glued them directly onto the paper. You could certainly pop them up with Dimensionals if you want the skis to stand out more from the background. I actually think that would look great, but I was trying to behave myself and keep this one a little more mail-friendly.
An Epic Birthday Greeting
I happened to have a scrap of Misty Moonlight cardstock sitting on my worktable, and it was just right for the sentiment.
I stamped “Have an Epic Birthday” in Versamark Ink and heat embossed it in white, then added it to the open area in the upper right corner of the card. The darker cardstock helps the greeting stand out without competing with the scenery.
I love how much of the designer series paper you can see on this winter slimline card. Sometimes a beautiful patterned paper doesn't need much help at all. A few coordinating details and a fun sentiment were really all this snowy mountain scene needed.
I think this design would be especially fun for a skier, snowboarder or anyone who would rather spend their birthday enjoying a snowy mountain adventure!
