Looking for a DIY Father's Day card idea that feels both handmade and perfect for Dad? You’ve still got about a month to get ready, and this one’s a winner — especially if your guy loves tools, tinkering, or garage time.
I used the Trusty Tools stamps and coordinating dies to create this masculine card, starting with a faux pegboard background. It’s just Crumb Cake cardstock, but I added a frame around it using thin strips of Pecan Pie cardstock. I popped those up using Foam Adhesive Strips to give the card a little extra dimension. I used my Blending Brushes to lightly apply some Pecan Pie and Early Espresso ink to give it all a bit of a worn look.
The toolbox was created from one of the woodgrain
patterns in the Country Woods Designer Paper pack, and I used the same paper to create the handle.
For the tools themselves I went with Silver Foil for that authentic metal look, and then added handles in Azure Afternoon where it made sense — like the hammer and wrench.
To add a fun touch, I tied one of the die-cut keys to the handle using a bit of Linen Thread. It's a small detail, but it gives the card a little personality and texture.
For the sentiment, I heat embossed Happy Father’s Day in white onto Azure Afternoon cardstock. I then used one of the dies from the Unbounded Love Dies to cut it out and mounted it to the card front using dimensionals.
This DIY Father's Day card has tons of visual interest and texture — just the kind of project that shows Dad you took the time to make something special.
