This Christmas slimline card was such a fun project to make! I wanted to create a snowy little scene featuring three adorable characters from the Christmas Crew Bundle. And what better way to give everyone room to play than with a slimline card? Between the cheerful snowman, red-nosed reindeer, and Santa-hat-wearing bear, there's a lot of personality packed into this winter scene!
Creating a Christmas Slimline Card
I started with a piece of Real Red cardstock measuring 7″ x 8-1/2″. I scored and folded it at 3-1/2″ to create a finished card measuring 3-1/2″ x 8-1/2″.
For the background I cut a piece of Balmy Blue cardstock to 8-1/4″ x 3-1/4″. Using the snowflake stamp from the Christmas Crew stamp set, I stamped a snowy background in white ink.
One little tip: Be sure to let the white ink dry before assembling your card. If you're impatient like I can be sometimes you can speed things along with your Heat Tool! Once dry I glued the Balmy Blue layer to the center of the card front.
Making a Snowy Hillside
Next, I cut a piece of Basic White cardstock measuring 2-1/2″ x 8-1/4″. Using my scissors, I trimmed a gently sloping edge across the top to create a snowy hillside. A little Balmy Blue ink applied along the edge with a Sponge Dauber gave the snowbank some soft definition. I also stamped the “season's greetings” sentiment in Real Red ink near the center of the white strip.
The Christmas Crew Bundle includes sentiments, but I wanted something a little larger for this card. The Noel Tidings stamp set had just what I was looking for!
Meet the Christmas Crew!
Now for the really fun part!
I stamped the snowman, reindeer, and bear onto scraps of Basic White cardstock using black ink. Since I knew they'd be peeking out from behind the snowbank, I didn't worry about stamping or coloring their entire bodies.
I used Stampin' Blends in Real Red, Old Olive, Crumb Cake, Pecan Pie, and Black to bring these little characters to life.
Then I added a touch of White Gel Pen to their noses. I have to say, I'm really enjoying these gel pens! No clogging or clumping, and they work beautifully for adding little highlights.
After die cutting the characters with the coordinating Christmas Crew Dies I used my scissors to trim away the portions I didn't need.
I also carefully cut around their little hooves and paws so they could rest on the edge of the snowbank.
And that snowman's scarf? I snipped along the sides so it could drape naturally over the snowy edge. Such a small detail, but I think it adds a lot of charm!
Bringing the Winter Scene Together
I used the Christmas Crew Dies to cut several evergreen trees from Peaceful Pine cardstock. These create a little forest behind our playful trio.
Here's a trick that made arranging everything much easier.
Rather than gluing the entire white snowbank down immediately, I applied glue only along the two side edges and bottom. That left the top open so I could slide the trees and characters behind the snowbank, arranging everything until I liked how it looked. Once I was happy with their placement, I secured the pieces with glue.
I added the Santa hat to the bear and positioned the little hooves and paws over the snowbank. Now they really look like they're peeking out to wish everyone a Merry Christmas!
A Few Finishing Touches
To finish my Christmas slimline card, I die cut some holly leaves from the green cardstock and berries from the red.
I placed these on either side of the sentiment for a little extra Christmas color.
Finally I added a Basic White layer inside the card, leaving plenty of room to write a personal holiday message.
A Little Christmas Cheer!
I just love how this card turned out! The slimline shape gives the entire Christmas Crew room to shine, and those little faces make me smile. It's playful, colorful, and full of Christmas cheer!
You could easily change the scene by using fewer trees, different colors, or even just one or two of the characters.
And if you don't have the exact same supplies, don't let that stop you. Use the trees, stamps, and embellishments you already have to create your own snowy scene.
If you'd like to take a look at the supplies I used, you can find them in my online store.
What do you think of this cheerful little crew? I'd love to hear which character is your favorite. I think I'd have a hard time choosing!
While you're here why not check out these Christmas friends?
