Rustic Christmas Wreath Card with Beautiful Layered Greenery

Sometimes a card design deserves a little extra room, and that's exactly how I felt about this rustic Christmas wreath card!  I decided to go with a larger 5″ x 7″ card so this beautiful wreath could really shine.  And I'm so glad I did!

I love the natural, woodsy appearance of the finished card.  The different shades of greenery, subtle texture, and rustic jute bow all work together without making the design feel too busy.

Creating a Rustic Christmas Wreath Card

I started with a 5″ x 7″ Crumb Cake card base.  For the background I embossed a 4-3/4″ x 6-3/4″ piece of Very Vanilla Cardstock using the Softly Woven 3D Embossing Folder.  I love how much texture this folder adds without competing with the rest of the card!

Unfortunately, the folder is currently on backorder.  But don't let that stop you from making something similar.  You could leave the cardstock plain, use another subtle embossing folder, or even substitute a piece of neutral designer series paper.

The wreath and sentiment are both from the Noel Tidings Bundle.

To give the wreath a little more interest I cut it out four times using Mossy Meadow, Pecan Pie, Crumb Cake, and Very Vanilla Cardstock.

Mossy Meadow became my main wreath.  Then I snipped individual sprigs from the other three colors and tucked them in here and there.  I love how those little touches of brown and cream give the wreath a more natural appearance!

And here's a bonus:  I have plenty of leftover sprigs to use on other projects.  Nothing going to waste around here! 😊

A Little Dimension Makes a Big Difference

Rather than gluing the entire wreath flat against the background, I initially attached the Mossy Meadow wreath in just three places.  Then I tucked in the additional sprigs, securing them with small amounts of glue.

Once I was happy with the arrangement, I added a little more glue where needed.  But I deliberately left many of the branches loose.  This gives the wreath some wonderful dimension and makes it look a little more like real greenery.

For the sentiment I stamped “love & joy” in Mossy Meadow ink on Very Vanilla Cardstock.  I used one of the smaller Tile Garden Dies to cut it out.  I also cut a 1-1/2″ square of Pecan Pie Cardstock and layered it behind the sentiment.  The Pecan Pie peeks through those little decorative openings around the edges.  Such a simple detail, but I love the effect!

The sentiment was attached over the lower right portion of the wreath using Stampin' Dimensionals.

The Perfect Rustic Finishing Touches

I think the Pecan Pie jute bow is just perfect for this card!  I used two long strands of jute from the Neutrals Jute Combo Pack and tied them together into a loose bow.  This pack includes five different neutral shades, making it a wonderful addition to your supplies if you enjoy creating nature-inspired cards.

Finally, I scattered a few Gold Adhesive-Backed Dots around the wreath.  Just a little shimmer was all it needed!

A Note About 5″ x 7″ Cards and Envelopes

One thing to keep in mind when making a larger card is the envelope.

Stampin' Up! doesn't currently offer A7 envelopes, which are the size needed for a 5″ x 7″ card.

I found some white A7 envelopes that work nicely.  It's handy to have a few on hand when you want to make something a little larger than the usual A2 card.

Make This Christmas Wreath Card Your Own

One of my favorite things about this design is how easily you can change its appearance.

Try using different shades of green for the wreath, adding a few berries, or replacing the jute with a pretty ribbon.  You could even use a different sentiment and turn it into a winter birthday card!

And if you don't have all the same supplies, take a look through your stash.  You may already have something that will work beautifully.

I hope this rustic Christmas wreath card inspires you to try layering die-cut greenery on one of your own projects.  Sometimes a few extra layers and a little dimension are all it takes to make a card feel special!
