A foiled Christmas card is a wonderful way to add a little extra sparkle to your holiday greetings! And this one combines a beautiful snowy mountain scene, winter plaid, and a shiny silver sentiment that really makes a statement.
I've been having some fun with our Hot Foil System and the new Magical Christmas Hot Foil Dies. I've already created quite a few holiday sentiments, some in gold on Early Espresso cardstock and others in silver on Misty Moonlight.
You'll be seeing more of them over the next few weeks, I'm sure! 😊
Unfortunately, it's a little difficult to capture the beautiful shine of the foil in a photograph. Trust me, though, it's gorgeous in person!
Creating a Foiled Christmas Card with a Winter Scene
For this card I used Just Add Ink Sketch 794 as my inspiration. Sometimes I love having a sketch to get the creative process started, especially when I already have a few supplies in mind!
The layout was perfect for showcasing one of the snowy mountain scenes from the Alpine Winter Designer Series Paper collection.
I used one of the large Stylish Shapes circle dies to cut out the scene. Then, I cut a slightly larger circle from Misty Moonlight cardstock using a Spotlight on Nature die. I love the subtle decorative edge it adds around the mountain scene! It's just enough to give the focal point a little extra interest without competing with the beautiful winter landscape.
The two circles were layered together to create the focal point for my card.
A Little Silver Sparkle!
Now for the fun part!
I chose the “Enjoy the Magic of the Season” sentiment from the Magical Christmas Hot Foil Dies. I foiled it in silver on Misty Moonlight cardstock.
The included coordinating die cuts around the sentiments, creating a beautiful shape that follows the lettering. I wanted it to stand out a little more, so I used the same die to cut pieces from Basic White cardstock and layered the foiled sentiment over it, offsetting it slightly. That little bit of white makes such a difference, doesn't it? It kind of reminds me of show.
I also added three silver stars, each layered over a white die-cut backing. They add a little extra sparkle and help tie everything together.
Finishing the Card
For the background I selected the plaid pattern from the Alpine Winter Designer Series Paper collection. I love how the soft colors coordinate with the snowy mountain scene and Misty Moonlight cardstock. The plaid also adds a cozy winter feeling to the card.
I framed the patterned paper with a slightly larger piece of Misty Moonlight cardstock before attaching it to the card front.
Finally, I arranged the layered mountain scene, foiled sentiment, and silver stars to complete the design.
The result is a wintery Christmas card with just the right amount of sparkle!

I've really been enjoying experimenting with the Magical Christmas Hot Foil Dies. Having a collection of sentiments already foiled and ready to use makes it so easy to put together another holiday card whenever inspiration strikes.
And with both gold and silver versions already waiting in my craft room, I have plenty of possibilities!
