and purple for Halloween — it immediately sets the mood before you add a single spooky thing.
And speaking of spooky things… that web!
I used the large spiderweb from the Web of Fun Dies and cut it from Very Vanilla cardstock. The lighter color really pops against the orange background and lets all those wonderful web details show.
Of course, you can't have a web that fabulous without a spider lurking somewhere nearby. I cut the spider from Basic Black cardstock and attached it with Stampin' Dimensionals. Giving it a little lift makes it look as though it's sitting right on top of the web.
Creepy? Yes.
Cute? Well… I'll let you decide. 😂
For the greeting, I cut a banner from Gorgeous Grape cardstock and added the die-cut BOO in Very Vanilla. Keeping the greeting simple lets that big spiderweb remain the star of the card.
But Those Tiny Ghosts!
I think my favorite finishing touch might be the little ghosts from the Adhesive-Backed Bats, Ghosts & Dots embellishment package. Seriously, how stinkin' cute are they?
I scattered a few around the card, including one peeking out from the BOO banner. They're tiny, they're smiling, and apparently they aren't the least bit concerned about that giant spider.
I also added a layer of Very Vanilla cardstock inside the card so there's a nice light surface for writing your Halloween message.
The Sketch Behind the Design
This card was inspired by Sunday Stamps sketch SSC394.
I had fun interpreting the sketch rather than following each shape literally. The large spiderweb replaced the big circle in the center of the sketch, while the black spider took the place of the smaller oval overlapping it in the lower right.
That's one of the things I enjoy most about using card sketches. You don't have to look at a circle and think, I need a circle. Instead, think about what could fill that same space. In this case, a giant spiderweb seemed much more fun!
The banner worked perfectly for the element on the left, and from there my easy Halloween card came together quickly.
Sometimes a sketch is all it takes to get an idea started, and then you can let the supplies on your craft table take it somewhere completely different.
