Summer Adventures Card with a Fun Film Strip Design

A Summer Adventures Card Inspired by Two Fun Challenges

This summer adventures card began with two creative challenges that worked together perfectly.  The sketch came from Just Add Ink, while the theme challenge, Summer Love, came from The Paper Players.  Sometimes combining two challenges gives me exactly the inspiration I need!

The colorful striped paper from the Beautiful Ordinary Life Designer Series Paper immediately reminded me of sunny summer days, so it became the perfect background.

To create the focal point I combined two of my favorite products.  The Capturing Smiles Bundle provided the film strip and tiny camera, while the Summer Happiness Bundle and coordinating Washi Tape added the cheerful summer images and sentiment.

I stamped the sentiment in black on Coastal Cabana Cardstock, then die cut the top and bottom edges using one of the Bordered in Beauty Dies.  That decorative edge helps frame the greeting without covering too much of the background.

One little trick on this card is the film strip.  The die normally creates a shorter strip than I wanted, so I die cut a second one and added one extra frame underneath the sentiment.  Once everything was assembled the extension was almost impossible to notice.

The tiny scenes inside the film strip were stamped and colored with alcohol markers.  Since one of the squares is mostly hidden behind the sentiment, I simply colored that entire section with an alcohol marker instead of stamping another image.

Finishing Touches

To finish the design I die cut the sunglasses from the Summer Happiness Washi Tape and used them to start a small embellishment cluster in the lower right corner.  I then stamped, die cut, and added the little camera and heart to complete the grouping.

I really enjoy creating cards that tell a little story, and this summer adventures card feels like a collection of favorite vacation memories tucked inside an old roll of film.  It was a fun way to combine several products while stretching a die beyond its intended size.

Here's a cute handmade friendship card idea pairing the Capturing Smiles bundle with another set.

Inspired by Two Creative Challenges

This card was inspired by two fun cardmaking challenges that pushed my creativity in different ways.

Just Add Ink Sketch Challenge
The layout came from this week's sketch challenge.  It was the perfect excuse to pull out the colorful striped pattern from the Beautiful Ordinary Life Designer Series Paper.

The Paper Players – Summer Love Theme Challenge

The bright colors and vacation-inspired images of the film strip made it easy to capture the feeling of summer adventures.

Have you ever combined more than one challenge into a single project?  I'd love to hear what inspires your creative process!
