Note: These sets are retired, but you may still find them gently used on my Retired Rubber Stamps Page.
I needed to make a birthday card for my niece this week, so I grabbed the Very Versailles and Free as a Bird stamp sets and went to work. I'm actually not sure I like how it turned out. What do you think?
I wanted to make a feminine birthday card, and the Very Versailles stamp set is perfect for that.
I started off by stamping the script and leaf images in Versamark Ink and then embossing them with Clear Embossing Powder. White Embossing Powder might have looked better, but I was worried about it being too white against the Very Vanilla Card Stock. I ended up embossing the card sentiment in White Embossing Powder and I love how that came out. A subtle difference, I know.
Applying more ink over the embossed images would make them stand out more, too. I wanted the background images to be subtle, but I think I was a bit too timid.
Framelits & Dies Add a Lot of Texture and Interest
I cut out the Balmy Blue layering pieces using the Stitched Nested Labels Dies. You can pick these up alone or purchase them with the stamp set in the Free as a Bird Bundle and save 10%.
I trimmed one edge off two of the shapes and glued those along the top and bottom edges. Saving them for another project was an option, but I felt there was just a bit too much “blank” space on the card front. I added a couple pearls near the points.
The smallest die from the Stitched Rectangle Dies was used to cut out the greeting.
I fussy cut the birds and flowers using my Paper Snips, which makes the job so easy. Then I got to coloring in using by Stampin' Blends. This is always my favorite part! If you don't have any yet you should really pick up a couple packs and try them out!
I did stamp, cut out, and color a small flower, also. I added a small pearl center and attached it to the card sentiment layer.
A small Scalloped Lace Trim bow was added for the final touch.
Here's another handmade card idea using Free as a Bird and the Stitched Labels Nested Dies.
